WiP - Ang Paalam ni Mapolan Masalanta Kay Dagulang Ba-It

Pen, Brush & Ink
Vellum Board
297mm x 420mm
[29.7cm x 42cm]

I have a problem with scale. In my story, Dagulang Ba-It is as big as a Typical full scale Kubo, and Mapolan Masalanta is a towering 10 feet compared to the typical human height. I saw that my banana heart is somewhat gigantic, but that will be corrected as soon as I get the rest of the set piece done.

There was a part in the story when Mapolan Masalanta was so heartbroken over her unrequitted love for a Tagailog that she chose to be a recluse and shun humanity entirely, but not without saying goodbye to her constant companion and protector Dagulang Ba-it, which also is heartbroken over the entire matter . . .

Adult Coloring Books Illustrations

These are what I would like to call snippets of my new and some not-so-new illustrations I'm doing for a coloring book gig.

Each illustration is done on an A3 (29.7cm x 42cm) paper and intentionally reduced here so that I could still protect my work from instatnt downloads or some such, hee-hee!

But anyway, there are stuff I have lying around and got repurposed for this project, some really turning out to be really drawn for this. Like my Witch, which has evolved into something I really like.

Hopefully printing can be done soon. Have lots of ideas for the next series of illustrations, so that guys can enjoy coloring too. I mean there are lots of patterns ans illustrations available, but seemingly geared toward women. And men like to color too!

Character Design/Development - Pha-Ett

There were stories of how Paete, Laguna got it's name. Some are really insightful, most veer towards myth and legend. There is one, however that I hold close to my heart, the one where a rampaging bull of a boar was wreaking havoc on the small towns that line the foot of Sierra Madre. Even as a child I often think of that beast a a kind of dragon, hemce the reference to mythical beasts and cryptids.

Ten times bigger than the tallest man, this Dragon Minora is one among the few guardians of the land, more will be shown here as we move along. At this stage, the only things remarkable are the tusks and thick mane, and of course, the long hairy tail.

I tend to create our own dragons differently from the European and the Oriental. And there will be changes, hoprfully for the better, before Pha-Ett appears one one of my Komiks.

Tikbalang [Updated]

So far, the general form is done, but the hard part is adding the unique embellishment, raiments or armor fit for the mighty Tikbalang.

I posted a blurry cellphone video and photos of this  on a previous entry  http://screaming-mango.blogspot.com/2012/08/workplace-habitat.html

The Tikbalang has been a staple among horror stories, stuff you hear at campfires and when elders want to keep the rowdy children in line. But looking at what we had on books and films, there's so much to explore about this wonderfully frightening creature.

My purpose is to add a bit more myth and a deviation from the stereotype, gathered from old, childhood memories and what could be found on an otherwise dwindling supply of written lore on the subject.

Rediscover: Phantomanok - Concepts

Phantomanok Sketch A Day 001

Don't mind the old paper look. I'm just stressing a point, ha ha!
This was my early idea of resurrecting Phantomanok even before I tried looking for info on the author and artist. My Final Fantasy gaming days made me think a GF (Guardian Force) treatment maybe feasible for my beloved rooster-themed hero.

This is the sketch for size comparison only. The Rooster (or Cock, if you will) is still lacking some of the mystic look.

Between Work and Personal Life

This was  a sketch I did for a game UI that didn't make it to production. Which is fine really, since I can still use this for my own. I'm into mixing some influences from steampunk, industrial machines and the coolness of  every game I have played when I was younger.

Don't worry about stuff we left off before, they will be continued in its own pace. I was busy for a while. But all things considered (referring to my other blog), I am now about to embark on one of my ambitious delusions of creating characters and the environment for a game. Some of the illustrations you've seen here may find it's way into the story.

Cryptids

Been busy. Work. Stuff you do to make a living.

Also, I am trying to scan old character designs and sketches for my story. These dragons are from our own Myth and Mythology.

Cryptids.

Long lost creatures that should be rediscovered. I have to get back to the National Library to dig up more about these wonderful creatures that time forgot. Or were taken out of the books.
