Re-Vision

This came out of that immersion.

Will post the nitty-gritty soon. There is a process I seem to follow for my own style, if there is one.

November is fast approaching, more quicker than you might think. The last quarter of 2013 is important for me as well as my coleagues whi are vying to publish their own brand of komiks [comics], and I for one, am anxious and nervous about it.

If you are following this blog, you might have noticed that my posts have been studies of what I would like my illustration to be. And that is true.

This past weekend, I barricaded myself inside my matchbox apartment, took out my copies of Marshall Law, Wasted, Conan The Barbarian, and various Trident comics titles. And I do have a copy of The Philippine Comic Artists Portfolio, by Pyramid Publishing, plates from greats like Redondo, Malgapo, Infante among others.

Such heavy weights to carry, such beautiful artwork to emulate.

And I have no I dea what my artwork would be like. So I looked at how these artists did their work - the shadows, facial nuances,  composition.

It was total immersion. I even played The Lord of the Rings Audiobook for ambience.

Off Topic - Fat Tire Fetish

This is my Zongshen Moto-R 155cc fat tire. I call it fat tire because it has a wider wheel base than others in its class. And truth is, I have never really enjoyed riding this monster.

Yet.

You see, I still have to get me a proper license and of course log in some riding time to see how I could handle this beauty.

Soon enough, though I'm gonna take this baby for a long ride.

Working and working some more . . .

In between my job and freelance work, I still have time to help out some students with their school project. A group of Centro Escolar University studes asked me to edit their video report about diseases, and I gladly obliged. One of them is a daughter of my dentist, also a long lost friend from way back.

Needless to say, the video clips are way out of proportion, and a bit short in some, long on others. And the sound were a bit distressing. These are students taking medical courses, and I wondered why a video presentation?

So, the video I uploaded here is the rough cut of what I want the whole thing to look. I just wished they could have gone to me sooner, maybe gave them enough points to go about their project.

And as a bonus, a video from my cellphone. Haven't been drawing much because I am doing motion graphics, a web skin for an upcoming TV5 project, some writing for my graphic novel and a lot of listening to sci-fi audiobooks.

Workplace + Habitat

I was just into doing my Phantomanok illustration studies when my tablet just conked out on me. It wasn't really the tab itself but the cable. Must've disconnected something inside. I whipped out some paper and pen and doodled and sketched and a Tikbalang came to view.

Well, not the Tikbalang some movies and tv soaps try to sell, but more of the Tikbalang, that cryptid whose head resembles that of a horse, taller than any human, and legs large and powerful, which I imagined would be more horse-like.

But I refuse to subscribe to popular beliefs and views. I really think Tikbalangs are more mysterious and , well, definitely not the typecast. They should be monstrous yet interesting, wild and magical.

Excuse the images' blurry resolution, I only have a MyPhone. I don't really need a camera with it, but now I think I just might need one with a better resolution.

So Phantomanok will get it's life through the time tested method - old school pen and paper - which probably is for the best since I am more proficient with it.
